about

When I turned on the mic I thought I'd describe a party of sounds, where "all the sounds get together for some fun". "Where every note is welcome if it's out of time, tune, or place". A place for music with no rules, judgement or expectations. Interestingly though, this is one of my less bizarre tracks with the fewest bouts of nonstandard timing and dissonance. Again though, with improv, the results are not entirely in my control...and that's why it's so fun and creative. The opening sounds I like to imagine being the stairs down to the place. The sounds are quite low, as low as 40 or 50 Hertz--so give it a good play with your best headphones or biggest speakers, loud, focussed, and a few listens. There are only 2 parts I'd say I wish had turned out different; good luck finding them. You'll probably have more complaints. ( ;

The screen shot is a sound grab from Sunset Room in Victoria, BC, using an ipod app. I recommend playing these tracks quite loud and downloading the better quality files. Music is fragile; handle with care. ... more
