about

YEAR 3.11 (Script from 1990s)

I was going through my old poems, essays, comedy wrtings, etc. the other day and came across the paper that the cover art is a photo of (if the upload works). I imagined a future where permanence of the "self" or "soul is proven, mechanical life is possible, and made mandatory to improve the future--benevolently. I used the voice transformer and read it part-by-part during spots here and there in the song (with about 5 seconds of preparation, and no advance idea of the timing or phrasing, etc.) and added a bit of synth playing in real time at the end (to hopefully conjure up images of transfers of the self from the body to a mechanized one (as mandated in the crredo). I'd love to see it as a movie, attempting to show that this could in fact be our long-term fate and will make organic life seem (and be) a distant, dirty memory.

It's a bit longish, but if you get into the mood the story creates, it entertains sonically and philosophically start to finish.

The words in the album art are small, so the lyrics are written out below.

End of Year 3, one or two passes (I forget) in real time
using Numark NS6 digital controller, Roland VT-3 voice transformer, and Korg Monotron Duo and Delay analog synths. As most of my mixes, it was made with a minute or two of planning, no practice runs, and one or two passes in real time. If there ends up being a mistake I can't tolerate, I usually delete the track eventually. I despise losing the initial freshness of an idea. So if parts sound amateurish--thats why. Also, I'm relatively new to this extremely complex art. It's really, really fun. Enjoy the unknown.

Well there it is, a bit of a surprisingly-optimistic distant prediction from my mind of the 80's.

See you,
in tech.

lyrics

below is what will be written on the pro-paganda leaflets scattered around the planet, an example shown in the album art.

THE FIFTH TECHLIFE CREDO AS IT WILL APPEAR IN 2941

1. Progress is inevitable and desirable.
2. TECHLIFE is far superior to biological life.
3. Psiscience has proven that THE SELF is permanent and reincarnates, including incarnations into TECHLIFE.
4. When all organic life is eliminated from the planet, there will be no undesired pain for any creature and his, her, sher destiny will be almost entirely within their control.
5. Those who have not yet taken a TECHLIFE test run should do so. As yet, all those who have done so chose to go TECH. (my favorite moment of the track)
6. Any sentient creature who is still organic now has 3 choices: Take the transfer pill within 5k of a psi pickup station, Wait for trackdown and inenivitable (sic) termination, or remain in hiding until found and terminated.
7. Please see that this is a better way and we all are only doing what is best for all. The future paradise will speak for itself. End the cycle of pain that organic life dictates and usher in the next period of evolution on this earth.

With Love and Logic and Freedom,

The elders of the TECHLIFE panel.

All my edits have 5 things: Me, Others, Technology, Real Time Improvisation, and "Mistakes". I have been researching & playing with music intensely since 2011 on the Numark NS6. The screen shot is a sound grab from Sunset Room in Victoria, BC, using an ipod app. I recommend playing these tracks quite loud and downloading the better quality files. Music is fragile; handle with care. ... more
