about

The process for this one was so complex, but the prep, as usual, was mostly in setting up beats on the Korg Volca Sequence box. Made in one run through in real time with the sequencers, vocal transformer and synth. Then one run through on the dj decks to master a bit and add some effects, loops, etc. One more run through to fix the worst of the voice parts (had a cold when I made this), and add a few things.

This one feels like a cute little epic to me. And it takes me back to when my brother insisted that I listen to a 70's Genesis album, Wind & Wuthering 3 times with headphones, loud, before telling him what I thought. The third time listening to "All in A Mouse's Night" it happened. My ears opened up, and I loved it. That started the first phase of music joy for me--prog rock. Years later came the love for electronic dance music, but more about that later.

The basic story (lyrics should take time to be exposed, just like detail in the music. takes time to enjoy and many focused listenings) is a bunch of mice in a record shop have it made, till one day it goes out of business. They have to move, and experience trouble along the way. The lyrics, melody, and most of the arrangements, are made in real time, with zero prep, no script etc. Improvised. I hope someone takes the time to enjoy it as much as I do.

All my edits have 5 things: Me, Others, Technology, Real Time Improvisation, and "Mistakes". I have been researching & playing with music intensely since 2011 on the Numark NS6. The screen shot is a sound grab from Sunset Room in Victoria, BC, using an ipod app. I recommend playing these tracks quite loud and downloading the better quality files. Music is fragile; handle with care. ... more
